Answers to questions you might have about Off The Baseline

What is Off The Baseline?

OTB is an experiment in news aggregation, specifically for the tennis community. The site automagically pulls together resources from all corners of the informational superweb, to serve up the latest in tennis news as-it-happens.

What's the history of OTB?

OTB has been online since 2002 in a few different iterations. In the last (and most popular) format, it was a trend-setting blog with a heavy touch of snark. We fed legions of hungry fans heaping doses of tennis gossip, news, and viewpoints.

What happened to "the old" OTB?

I know, I know.... You liked us, you really liked us. Well, thanks Sally Field! Honestly, I do appreciate that.

Y'know, it's not easy being snarky (Okay, I lie. It's so super easy. Nyah nyah nyah!), and it's also time-consuming. Due to several factors, including the tremendous amount of time and upkeep the site took, and all of the great new voices and sites emerging on the web, I decided to take it offline, focus on other things, and pass the baton to all the folks who were enthusiastically joining the tennis net journo world.

But as loyal readers of the last OTB will note, I like to play with web projects. I got a little restless over the summer and decided to bring the site back online in a new format.

One area of the old OTB that was immensely popular was my news aggregation service, particularly among both bloggers and paid journalists. So I decided to create the new format as an easy-to-read one stop for the news hungry -- and selfishly, myself included.

Any chance you'll go back to the old format?

Erm, well. I like to look forward, not backwards. I also want to make the best contribution that I can make to the online tennis world. That niche has been filled by all the great sites listed on the main page.

I would also add that there are probably a few new ideas out there that have yet to be explored. That said, I like two things: challenges and fun. If you have an idea or a thought that has these characteristics, shout at me. Whatevs. I love email, so don't be shy.
